MIAMI LIGHTHOUSE CELEBRATES WHITE CANE DAY
WITH WALK-A-THON, RESOURCE FAIR

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind is hosting a Walk-a-thon and Resource Fair to celebrate White Cane Day in Miami on Friday, October 14, 1005. The event creates public awareness of driving laws protecting pedestrians who are blind or visually impaired when they cross the street by imposing fines for drivers who do not stop when they see a person with a white cane or service animal.

The event takes place at 601 S.W. 8 Avenue in Miami FROM 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call Angie Blanco at 305-856-2288, extension 231, for Walk-a-thon donation envelopes and lunch reservations. The community is invited to participate.

Featured speaker will be Professor Richard Long of Western Michigan University. Disability service providers will display resource information about the programs and services available in the community for persons with disabilities and Miami-Dade County Public works Department will demonstrate the new accessible pedestrian traffic signals.
